Business at Northwestern

At Northwestern, the business program has a greater purpose than simply preparing students for commercial success. Our students learn how to use business as a tool to impact the world, lead change, and ultimately live the Gospel in places that are normally out of reach to conventional ministry. This purpose is what motivates us to the highest level of integrity, leadership, and business skill.

3 Reasons to Pursue your Business Degree at Northwestern

We equip students to be God-honoring leaders in business and in life. Our program seeks to prepare Christian men and women to apply their talents and be an influence for Jesus Christ.

  • Gain more than business savvy. Here, you'll not only get a business degree, you'll also develop the character and leadership qualities you'll need to thrive in business by integrating biblical principles and ethics in all courses.
  • Accelerate your path to internships and jobs. The Twin Cities of Minnesota is a hub of headquarters—including 3M, Best Buy, General Mills, Medtronic and more! The connections of our professors and alumni mean regular visits to major corporations and learning from their business leaders.
  • Reputation makes a difference. Our School of Business has a strong reputation for excellence among top corporations—employers consistently rate our students highly and each year several of our business majors are offered positions before graduation.

Practical Experience

We strive to develop marketable skills in our students. On the first day of employment, a business graduate should be able to prepare reconciliations, develop and implement an integrated marketing plan, evaluate a budget, give basic tax planning advice, and use common software. Graduates have the practical skills to contribute immediately.

The faculty business expertise provides the foundation for a student’s long-term business career. The business faculty have had a great variety of positions in the business world, including:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Vice President of Finance
  • Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
  • Chief Operating Officer (COO)
  • Vice President of Sales & Marketing
  • Senior Software Engineer
  • Entrepreneur

Software and Technology

Business students must be literate in today’s technology. All business students are required to take several courses that emphasize the use of technology within a business setting. Students receive practical hands-on training using the newest version of the Microsoft Office Suite. They learn skills that the modern business professional is required to know to be successful in the workplace. Our business faculty is in constant contact with businesses in order to understand what the needs are and to supply students with the technology skills to solve business problems.

Quantitative Approach

Every business, church, or nonprofit organization needs to plan its financial future, raise funds and control costs. In recognition of this necessity, all Northwestern business programs include a rigorous quantitative foundation in statistics, accounting and financial principles. Mathematics is the foundation of the curriculum.

The quality of Northwestern’s accounting and finance graduates has been recognized by national certification agencies and by employers.

All organizations must have effective accounting and financial control systems. Northwestern business graduates are well equipped to address these needs.

Quality of Students

Our school attracts and recruits students interested in a rigorous academic curriculum.

The quality of business students is exemplified by their high admission test scores, academic excellence, individual and teamwork abilities, commitment to Christ, national test standings, participation in post-graduate schools, and successful business careers.
